This increased fine for speeding in a highway work zone in Virginia applies if a driver is speeding in a highway work zone when workers are present.  The work zone must also be marked with signs informing drivers of the speed limit and the penalties for speeding.  A highway work zone in Virginia is a construction or maintenance area that is on or beside a highway.  It must be marked with appropriate warning signs and flashing lights or traffic control devices indicating that work is in progress.

The Fine for Speeding in a Highway Work Zone in Virginia Can be as High as $500

The fine for speeding in a highway work zone in Virginia can be pre-paid and therefore the driver does not need to appear in court if he pays the ticket.  However, paying the fine for speeding in a highway work zone in Virginia is an admission of guilt and will result in a conviction for speeding on the offender’s Virginia driving record.  This conviction will remain on the offender’s Virginia driving record for 5 years.
