NOT GUILTY ON ALL CHARGES
I was already a twice-convicted felon and looking at three more felonies and a misdemeanor when I met Jean. She was appointed to me by the court in Prince William County, and I had no idea how lucky I had become. I could tell that Jean was a bit nervous when she first met me, which is understandable considering I had been picked up for malicious wounding and strangulation charge the night before. Jean listened though, which is one of her best qualities, and as time went on I could see that she has a keen ability to separate “who you are” in order to determine your character rather than what you are charged with. Even though I did not hire Jean she fought for me as if I had, putting many many hours into the preparation of my trial, including some meetings on Saturdays for hours in her office. Because of Jean’s dedication and persistence in pursuing the actual truth she was able to weed out many inconsistencies, and in the end, she was able to show the jury what I had known all along. They only deliberated for thirty minutes before coming back with not guilty verdicts on all of the charges. Beyond Jean’s zealous pursuit of excellence in her profession is her understanding that the legal system is not perfect and in many cases not fair. By the end of this debacle, I felt almost as if I was being represented by a friend, which is an extremely good feeling.
