Can My Driving Record in Virginia Affect My Job?

Did you know…your driving record in Virginia can affect your job? Traffic charges have more consequences for Virginia drivers than people think-much more than just a fine. For information on how your driving record in Virginia can affect your job, read the post below.
Can My Driving Record in Virginia Affect My Job?
There are many ways your Virginia driving record can affect your job:
If you take time off work to go to court, this could be a problem if you have already missed too much work.
If you are paid hourly, you are literally losing money by taking time off of work to go to court and fight a traffic ticket.
If your job duties require you to drive for work, your employer’s insurance could go up if you are convicted of certain offenses or have a bad driving record-which means you could lose your job.
If you acquire too many demerit points in a short period of time, the DMV will suspend your driver’s license. If your license is suspended and you need to drive for work, this could directly impact your job.
Additionally, a security clearance (or the ability to go onto a secure facility for work) can be impacted by a bad driving record.
Perhaps most importantly, Speeding in Virginia can sometimes be a crime, which can result in jail time. Reckless Driving by Speed (driving more than 20 miles per hour over the posted speed limit or driving more than 85 miles per hour) is punished with a fine, driver’s license suspension, and/or jail time. Other traffic offenses are also crimes, including a variety of offenses deemed Reckless Driving, Eluding the Police, Driving on a Suspended or Revoked License, DUI, and many others.
If you are sentenced to jail and don’t go back to work, even for a day, you could lose your job. If you are convicted of a crime, you could lose your job or a potential job in the future with a criminal record.
