Do I Have to Pay Court Costs for a Speeding Ticket in Virginia?

If a driver is convicted of Speeding in court, he or she will be required to pay court costs, in addition to any fine. Also, if a driver fails to pre-pay a Speeding ticket in Virginia and fails to appear in court, he or she will also have to pay court costs, including additional costs for not appearing in court. A driver also must pay court costs if ordered by the court to complete a traffic school for dismissal. Va. Code §16.1-69.48:1.

You might decide to just pre-pay the ticket and not go to court. Speeding tickets are in fact pre-payable offenses, meaning they can be paid before the court date and the driver doesn’t even need to come to court at all. However, drivers will be required to pay court costs for a speeding ticket even when they pre-pay it! Va. Code §16.1-69.48:1.
