A Hit and Run in Fairfax occurs when a driver fails to report a car accident. Virginia law requires any driver involved in an accident to provide his name, address, driver’s license number, and vehicle registration number to the other driver or police. If the accident involved unoccupied property and the driver cannot locate the property owner, he must leave a note with this information in addition to his contact information, the date, time and location of the accident, and a description of property damage, as well as report the accident to the police within 24 hours.
A Fairfax Hit and Run involving property damage under $1,000 is a misdemeanor. A Hit and Run involving more than $1,000 in property damage, injury, or death, is a felony.
